Create a Robot that Sorts Trash & Save The World
BAM Robotics is a Vancouver-based start-up creating a low-cost robot with human-like hands to sort trash. 80% of material that gets landfilled today is either recyclable or compostable and could have been cycled back into the economy. The consequences of our current wasteful practices are enormous.
20% of global methane emissions come from decomposing organics in landfill. The City of Vancouver will pay $150 million over the next 5 years to ship waste that exceeds local landfill capacity across the border to the USA.
Our immediate goal is to deploy a prototype sorting cell at the Vancouver landfill, to prevent methane emissions and help Vancouver become the first city in the world to reach its zero waste target. The long-term vision is to create a factory that turns waste into finished goods and pure raw materials.
